Physiotherapy Associates National Director of Industrial Rehabilitation Published in Professional Case Management

10/30/2007

CHICAGO – The Physiotherapy Associates National Director of Industrial Rehabilitation wrote an article on workplace stretching, published in the Sept/Oct 2007 edition of Professional Case Management, the official journal of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA).

John Lowe, of the Chicago market, provided an in-depth look at workplace safety in his article, “Do Workplace Stretching Programs Work?”  Lowe originally published the article in a local industrial services newsletter, where it was spotted and picked up by the CMSA.

In his article, Lowe discussed requirements for successful injury prevention programs for Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMD). He also compiled lists of WRMD causes and tips from his personal experiences on how to increase injury prevention success. In summarizing case studies, Lowe provided verification that these stretching prevention programs do work if the set guidelines are followed.

According to his research, “stretching is ideally only one part of a comprehensive injury prevention program,” but “any intervention is only as effective as the people implementing it.” His suggested guidelines for stretching offer one facet to providing an effective workers’ safety program.

Lowe’s article can be found in the Sept/Oct 2007 issue, Vol. 12, #5; pages 300-302. Reprints can be ordered by contacting the Physiotherapy Marketing Department at 1-888-577-7868.
